On a traditional web page, you can type a star symbol with HTML code, such as ☆. Facebook status updates and profile fields do not accept HTML code, so this method will not create a star symbol on Facebook. You can circumvent this limitation by copying a star symbol from your computer's Character Map and pasting the symbol directly into your Facebook profile or status update. The Character Map offers a number of different star designs from which to choose.
Click "Start," then "Programs," then "Accessories," then "System Tools," then "Character Map."
Change the font to "Arial Unicode MS."
Type "star" in the "Search For" box.
Click "Search." A number of star symbols appear.
Click on the star symbol you want to use. It zooms out. Click "Select," then click "Copy."
Sign in to your Facebook account.
Click inside the "Status Update" box or the profile field box into which you want to type the star symbol.
Press "Ctrl-V" to paste the star you've copied.
