Gmail's email composer window supports two different types of message formatting. You can send either HTML emails or plain-text emails. HTML emails use the same formatting code used on Web pages. HTML email provides a richer range of display options, and can support different fonts, colors, sizes, links and font faces. Many people prefer to receive plain-text emails. You can turn off HTML emails in Gmail's composer window by clicking the link in the composer window itself.
Click the "Compose Mail" button at the upper-left corner of the Gmail page.
Click the "Plain Text" link to the right of the formatting options above the message text box.
Click "OK" to confirm the loss of formatting.
