There are times in your life where you may want to salvage that old wedding dress in the back of your mom or grandma's closet but don't want to look so old fashioned. There are a number of ways that you can go about remaking a wedding gown. You can completely start over and simply use the material of the old wedding gown, or you may just want to make a few alterations. The first thing you need to do is to decide how you want to remake the wedding gown.
Wedding Gown
Find picture of what you want to do to the gown. You might want to lengthen or shorten the skirt, make the skirt fuller or straight, add sleeves or remove the straps.
Take apart the wedding gown at the seams. Separate all pieces, but pin paper onto each piece so you don't forget what part of the dress it is. For example, after you've separated the skirt, write "front part of skirt" on the paper, and pin it on the corresponding part.
Choose your pattern, and place it onto the material. Match the pattern pieces to the same pieces of the wedding gown.
Cut the wedding gown according to the pattern.
Follow pattern directions, and sew the remade wedding gown together.
Decide on additional embellishments. You may want to add pearl, rhinestones, lace or ribbons.
