Western Wedding Bouquet Ideas

Whether you ride into the wedding on horseback or walk down the aisle to a romantic country ballad, enhance your Western-themed ceremony with a stylish bridal bouquet. Use the language of flowers to make a statement about your relationship. Celebrate the personal style of your wedding with a bouquet that shows both personality and symbolism.

Refine the wedding theme
Once the wedding date is set, determine whether the wedding ceremony will be a formal or a more informal affair. Identify what level of Western gear your wedding party and guests will wear. If rustic kicker-style cowboy boots and belt buckles are on the agenda, then consider an informal bridal bouquet of short-stemmed sunflowers and baby's breath with a gingham bow. If tuxedos are you preference, expensively chic Tony Lama boots and skinny designer bolero ties are planned, then elevate the wedding bouquet design to a more formal level. Consider lilies and cascading wild roses in a structured bouquet arrangement with a lace bow.

Flower selection
Sunflowers and daisies may be the traditional blossoms of Western floral style, but modern Western wedding bouquets often include a far wider range of natural flowers from the prairies, mountains and country gardens of the Western United States. Choose an armful of freshly picked prairie bluebonnets to give a Texan flavor to the wedding. Carry a bundle of deep blue or deep pink hydrangeas to evoke the romance of homesteads and farming.

Flowers with a symbolic meaning are effective in Western wedding bouquets. Telegraph your hopes for abundance with chrysanthemums. Carry an old-time bouquet of lily of the valley to convey happiness. Use a traditional bouquet of roses to signal love and beauty. Daffodils are a joyous sign of spring and show regard for the wedding participants.

Accessorize the bouquet
Western wedding bouquets make a statement with country-themed natural accessories as an accent. Intersperse stems of bearded wheat to emphasize the idea of harvest. Add in branches from flowering fruit trees, evergreen tree cuttings and branches with brightly covered berries. Include fragrant herbs like lavender, mint and lacy fennel to evoke the fresh air and self-reliance of Western style.

Hand-made, Americana and country type accessories are appropriate for western wedding bouquets, as well. The bride, attendants and flower girl may all carry flowers in woven baskets with delicate colored bows. A fringed parasol with flowers attached at the handle or on top makes a dramatic departure from standard bouquets. A bouquet of pheasant tail feathers, a bow of thinly cut burlap, or a western-style kerchief tied around the flower stems are all adventurous ways to create a western wedding bouquet.
