Score Sheets for Volleyball Game

Score sheets in volleyball are used to record individual statistics as well as a point-by-point account of the match and service order. Score sheets are recorded by an official scorer at the professional level, but that duty may fall upon a coach or a parent at high school or club levels. Concentration and a strong knowledge of the game are required to correctly fill out a complicated volleyball score sheet.

Write the name of the competition, site and team codes on the upper part of the sheet. Fill in the team names, player names and shirt numbers in the box on the lower right-hand side of the form. There is a separate line at the bottom of the list where the libero player's name and number should be listed. Complete the section for coaches, assistants and trainers as well.

Following the coin toss, the scorer should fill out the team codes in the box marked "Set 1" according to which side of the court the teams start the match. The scorer should write an "x" in the circle with an "s" to denote the serving team and do likewise in the circle with an "r" to mark the receiving side. The number of the starting players must be completed under the Roman numerals in correspondence with their positions on the court.

The scorer notes the time when the referee signals the start of the match, and then crosses off the number in the box of the corresponding server. Once the team loses service, the scorer writes the number of points that team has scored up to that point in the same box. The same process is followed for the other team. The scorer keeps track of the points by crossing off the score in boxes to the right of both lineups. This process continues until one team wins the set and is repeated for all subsequent sets.

Substitutions are noted by writing the incoming players' numbers in the box below the player he or she replaced. The score at the time of the substitution must be written in the appropriate place on the score sheet. Similar procedures should be followed when a timeout is called. Additional substitutions for an injured player or an injured libero should be recorded in "remarks" section.

Any forms of misconduct should be listed in the sanctions box at the bottom left of the score sheet. The disciplined player's number or the initials of the member of the coaching staff must be noted under the correct column -- "P" for penalty, "E" for expulsion or "D" for disqualification. The penalized player or staff member's team, set number and score at the time of the sanction must be noted. Warnings as well as penalties can be issued for delay sanctions

Following the conclusion of the match, the scorer will mark the duration of each set in the results box. The scorer will fill in the point tallies for both sides for each set, as well as the number of substitutions made and timeouts granted. All the values will be tallied and the total numbers placed in the box at the bottom. The scorer will mark the starting and ending times together with the match duration, and then complete the winning side's team code and overall score.
