About Miniature English Bulldogs

Miniature English Bulldogs with their cute, stubby faces and charming tricks are active and loyal pets, and can sure worm their way into your hearts. This article gives you more information on this Miniature English Bulldog breed.

The Miniature Secret!
Miniature English Bulldogs have been bred with a specific formula since the 1980s. The methods and formula to develop this breed are kept a closely guarded secret to prevent breeder experimentation.
They are just smaller versions of the English Bulldog and not a cross between any other English Bulldogs. However, the English Bulldogs have been subjected to modification since the 18th century in England. This was done primarily to develop healthier, reputed, and excellent quality breeds. Miniature English Bulldogs are a result of such modification, and their features reflect those of the English Bulldog but are smaller in size. They were popularly used in a gambling sport called 'Bull Baiting', which was played in England. This breed is, however, not recognized by the American Kennel Club as there are no specific standards to define a miniature.

Here are some of the traits of this breed.

Temperament and Behavior With Other Pets and Children

They mostly display the traits of the English Bulldog and are loyal, active, and adorable. They are full of energy when young, but tend to slow down as they grow old. They need a lot of affection and undivided attention to grow well. They are extremely intelligent, make good watchdogs, and are quick learners. They are great companions and playmates for kids. One would need to introduce them to other pets gradually, as they do not mingle easily with other animals.
Exercise and Grooming

This breed is an ideal pet for those living in apartments as they prefer being indoors. Daily walks excluding strenuous physical activities are recommended. The wrinkly folds on their faces must be cleaned daily with a damp cloth, and the coat needs to be wiped dry as they run the risk of infection. This breed doesn't shed much; hence, combing the coat with a firm bristle brush and bathing only when needed, is the minimum care they need.
Health Care

This breed is susceptible to skin infections, hip and knee problems, breathing problems, poor eyesight, heatstroke in warm or hot conditions, and are very sensitive to cold environment. During summer, make sure they sleep on a cold floor as they sweat through their feet, and if possible, provide air-conditioning; while in winter, cover them in warm clothes and arrange a warm bedding.
As Abraham Lincoln rightly said "I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it." The same applies here as Miniature English Bulldogs are friendly, good-natured pets who are docile and affectionate and make great companions for life.
