Draw Halloween Ghost Face

As simple as it sounds, a ghost face art can be drawn using an almost infinite number of ways. Doodle several variations on scrap paper before adding one to your ghost creation to ensure you've captured just the right spirit.

Step 1: Start With the Eyes
The eyes are the key to expression on any face -- even a ghost's face. Draw simple circle or oval eyes on scrap paper first; these shapes are neutral and can imply whatever you like, based on the mouth shape. Since ghost faces usually don't have eyebrows, use the top part of the eye shape to indicate emotion. Angle the eyelids so they're lowest near the center of the face for an angry or a mean face; angle them the opposite way for a surprised or sad look. Draw bunches of eye shapes on scrap paper to find the perfect look for your ghost.

Step 2: Master the Mouth
The shape of the ghost's mouth says a lot about the ghost. A long, narrow mouth looks spookier than a wide, smiling mouth. Draw a long, somewhat oval shape for a basic mouth. Draw a long or wider mouth with slightly jagged areas at the top and bottom, a little like teeth, for an added scary touch. Since it's a ghost, it doesn't need a tongue or teeth; just fill in the oval or mouth shape.

Step 3: Combine to Complete the Look
Now that you've drawn eyes and a mouth, combine different eye shapes with different mouth shapes to experiment with emotions for your ghost's face. For instance, a smile that would look happy on its own becomes sinister when paired with angry-looking eyes. Once you're happy with your eyes-and-mouth combination, draw them on your actual ghost, filling in the eyes and mouth with pen, pencil or marker -- whatever medium you're using on the project.
