Kids Christmas Tree Ornaments

Decorating the Christmas tree with the family is an annual tradition in many homes that celebrate the holiday. Ornaments used to adorn the tree may have been in the family for years or may be newly store bought. You may also put homemade ornaments on your tree. Make your own homemade ornaments with your children as part of your Christmas tradition. Use those ornaments to decorate the tree, year after year.

Clear, light-blue and white plastic beads with a big enough hole for a pipe cleaner to fit through.
Felt Wreath
Wash an old sweater on a cycle that uses hot water to wash and cold water to rinse. Dry the sweater on high heat. Repeat this process until the sweater is shrunken enough so you can cut it without it fraying.

Cut the sweater into 1 1/2-inch-wide strips. Then, cut 1 1/2-inch squares from the strips. You don't need to measure them out with a ruler, just eyeball it.

Thread a needle with embroidery floss. Stick the needle through the center of the sweater squares and move the squares down onto the embroidery floss, stopping about 3 inches from the end of the floss. Keep adding squares until you have about 60 on the floss, or enough to make a nicely shaped circle when you bring the two ends of the embroidery floss together.

Tie the two ends of the embroidery floss together to pull the strung sweater squares into a circle, forming the wreath. Trim the excess embroidery floss.

Use craft glue to glue rhinestones onto your wreath to decorate it.

Thread one end of your 9-inch strip of ribbon through the center of the sweater wreath. Tie the ribbon in a loop to allow you to hang the ornament from the Christmas tree.

Pipe Cleaner Candy Cane
Take three white pipe cleaners and glue them together with craft glue in the center of the bunch. Allow the glue to dry for at least 10 minutes.

Wrap a red pipe cleaner around the bunch of white pipe cleaners to create the candy cane's swirls. The red pipe cleaner will not make it all the way from one end of the bunch to the other. Trim the extra length from the white pipe cleaners.

Curve the top of the pipe cleaners to shape the whole bunch like a candy cane.

Tie a bow of ribbon around the top of the pipe cleaner candy cane.

Use the hook of the candy cane ornament to hang it on the tree like you would a regular candy cane.

Snowflake Ornament
Take four white pipe cleaners and twist them around each other in the center to create a snowflake shape.

Thread clear, white and light-blue plastic beads onto the pipe cleaners to make the snowflake sparkle. Leave a little room at each end of the pipe cleaners when threading the beads. Bend the ends of the pipe cleaners at a 90-degree angle after adding the last beads to hold the beads on.

Tie a loop of ribbon around the center of the snowflake to hang it from the tree.
