Gchat provides a fun and simple way to instant message with friends, family and peers. If you have regular correspondence with Gmail users, they will automatically be added to your contact list. You can also manually add people at your discretion. However, you may not be interested in having a department store you order from frequently added to your list, or you may not want your employer or parents there either. Deleting unwanted people or companies from your list is easy, and can be done quickly.
Log in to your Gmail account, and locate the name of the contact you want to remove from your contact list. This will be on the bottom left-hand side of your Gmail account page.
Move your mouse over the name of the contact in your list and wait for your contact's information to appear under the cursor. Options will appear after doing so containing actions you can take to connect to the contact.
Place your mouse over the "Video and More" options box, and scroll over to click the downward arrow on the box.
Locate the "Show in chat list category" under "Add voice/video chat" and select the "Never show" option. Once you click the "Never show" option, the person will be deleted from your Gchat contact list.
