Turn Off Images in Gmail

Gmail is configured to display email images by default by loading them through Google's secure proxy servers, which hide your identity and availability from unwanted email senders. It also provides an efficient method of viewing graphic data as you do not have to enable them one email at a time. However, if your computer or mobile device have a slow Internet connection, you can choose to hide the images embedded in such email messages. Additionally, you may select to disable pictures only from a particular sender.

Click the Gear icon from your main inbox screen.

Select “Settings” from the ensuing options list, which allows you to customize Gmail’s main options.

Navigate to the Images section located within the "General" tab.

Click the “Ask Before Displaying External Images” radio button. This option hides all images by default, showing them only when you agree to display them within a message.

Scroll to the bottom of the "General" tab and click “Save Changes” to apply the new image settings.

From Android Device
Tap the Gmail icon from your Gmail app, followed by “Settings.” The icon looks like a white envelope.

Select the email account you wish to modify, then tap "Images."

Select “Ask Before Showing.” This option hides all images by default, displaying them only when you tap “Show Pictures” within any given message.
