Combining Pilates With Yoga

Yoga and pilates are very similar in that they use whole body movements in order to strengthen your body, improve your fitness, posture, flexibility and strength and are both great for your health. Both of these types of workouts require you to make use of a great deal of focus and control in order to properly perform the movements and become more fit. We know exercise is important to our overall health and fitness and beginning a program that involves both yoga and pilates is a great way to become fit and healthy.

Both yoga and pilates require a great deal of focus and an incorporation of breathing. The focus of the breathing is more intense with yoga than with pilates but both use it. Yoga in some ways is considered to be a meditated form of exercise while pilates is a full body workout. When putting the two together you can find yourself aligning your body in a way that feels more natural and accurate to your overall body and health. Many times in both forms of exercise the term centering is used a great deal to describe some of the movements and the concentration needed to perform them.

What differences are present?

Pilates typically uses a piece of equipment. This equipment is a platform with springs, pulleys and bands to help you make use of your entire body strengthening and alignment. These workout machines can be purchased on a variety of websites through companies that have workout machines for sale in order to have the right equipment for pilates. Yoga on the other than usually does not require any equipment. What makes the two combine so well is the fact that the founder of pilates, Joseph Pilates studied yoga and incorporated many of the movements and principles into his routines and teachings in order to promote a holistic approach to health and fitness.
