Solid time management skills will make your life much easier.
Me: Hey how are you doing? How are things?
Joe: Great. I am soooo busy. Crazy busy. Where does all of the time go?
Me: How's business?
Joe: I'm doing really well. Just got back from New York. I have tons of things going on this week - a bunch of meetings and a few events. Hey I gotta run. Let's catch up soon. I will find you on Facebook.
Me: Sounds great. Be well.
This happens all of the time. We are so busy being busy. And we love to tell people how busy we are.
Here's the deal with Joe. His business revenue has plateaued for 5 years because he is so busy doing the wrong stuff. Yep - Joe is checking email every 20 minutes, on Facebook all of the time, going to lunch with the wrong people, and not really getting anywhere. Yes, the guy is crazy busy and it makes him feel good, but he isn't growing his business. His results on being busy have resulted in a whole lot of nothing.
I had coffee the other day with a senior branding executive in Los Angeles. It was a "crazy busy" day for me (LOL!). I asked her what the number one problem her clients had as entrepreneurs. I was thinking the answer was going to be something like developing a marketing plan, hiring staff, or dealing with cash flow. The answer was time management.
It's like we know deep down that we should be getting more things done but we don't abide by any time management system and regress back to mediocrity and chill in the gunk and sludge.
We are all given the same 24 hours each day. It's what we decide to do with it that will determine our level of success, the degree to which we impact people's lives, and yes, reach the goals we want to achieve. Time management helps us reach those levels and goals.
