Easy Dice Games for Children

When the weather makes outside activities impossible, it can be difficult to keep children occupied. Dice games are a fun, inexpensive, portable and educational way for kids to spend time. There are simple, quick games designed for younger children, and more complicated games for older children. Dice games let the family spend time together.

Stuck in the Mud
The object of this game is to roll the dice and get the highest score without using the 2 or 5 dice. Before the game begins, players should agree on a number of rounds to be played. Player 1 rolls the dice. If there is not a 2 or 5 in the roll, add the numbers and roll again. If the roll includes a 2 or 5, the roll does not score at all. Remove all 2 and 5 dice, as these are now "Stuck in the Mud," and roll again. Player 1's turn continues until all dice are "Stuck in the Mud." The player with the highest score at the end of the last round wins.

Penny Pick Up
Collect 20 pennies and place them on the surface where you will play the game. Using one die, players take turns rolling the die and picking up the corresponding number of pennies, according to the number rolled. To pick up the last remaining pennies, the number rolled must match the remaining pennies exactly. When all of the pennies have been picked up, the player who has collected the most wins.

Beat That!
This game can be played with two or three dice. Player 1 rolls the dice and then must make the largest number possible out of the numbers rolled. For example, if Player 1 rolls a 5, 7 and a 2, the best possible answer would be 752. Player 1 would write down the number, pass the dice and say "Beat that!" to Player 2. The player with the highest number at the end of the round wins.

Going to Boston
Start with three, four or five dice. Player 1 rolls the dice and removes the die with the highest number. Write down that number. Player 1 rolls again, repeating the directions until there are no dice left and the dice are passed to the next player. The player with the highest number wins the round. Players should determine the number of rounds to be played at the beginning of the game.
