Tips to Warm-up Before Baseball

To play good baseball you need to warm-up, but most importantly, to play safe baseball you must warm-up. When you adequately warm-up before playing baseball, you decrease your risk of pulled muscles and sore arms. This also helps you prepare for the situations you will face in the game. Read on to learn more.

Stretch before doing any other baseball activities. It's important to stretch all of your muscles fully no matter what position you play or what you expected role in the game is. Any player might use any muscle at any time. Stretch for at least 15 minutes.

Do some light jogging for a short distance. Jog 200 to 400 feet. Be careful not to run so much or so far you tire yourself out, but you do want to prepare your body for the act of running. Starting with light jogging stretches out your running muscles and prepares your body for full-speed running.

Begin playing catch lightly. After fully stretching and jogging, start throwing softly from a short distance. Gradually get farther away from your partner and begin throwing harder.

Play long-toss. After your arm feels warmed up from catch, get about 150 feet apart from a partner and play catch. This will fully stretch out your arm. If you make 10 throws from this distance, your arm should not get tired, but it will be stretched out and ready for the game.

Warm-up from a mound if you will be the pitcher. Immediately before you take the mound in the game, throw some practice pitches from a mound. As with catch, begin throwing softly and work your way up to harder throws.

Take fielding practice if you play in the field. Take some ground balls and fly balls to prepare for any fielding situations which might come up. At this point, your warm-up should be complete and you only need to focus on hand-eye coordination and getting accustomed to the field you'll be playing on.
