What is Split Squad Game

Sports teams often schedule split squad games during the preseason. These allow a coach to give more players an opportunity to get off the bench and show what they can do. This additional playing time helps coaches analyze their players when they’re trying to decide who should make the final squad, while the athletes can improve their skills before the real season begins.

Definition of Split Squad Games
Split squad games occur when a single team is temporarily divided into two separate ones. These teams then participate in separate games against two different opponents. With fewer overall players on each team, there’s greater playing time for athletes who wouldn’t normally get to play. Split squad games also allows coaches to try out players in new situations, such as giving a less experienced player a chance to start against a higher-caliber opponent.
