Sometimes using the written word to express your thoughts to a friend makes it difficult to convey tone. When you're leaving comments for a friend on Facebook, using smiley faces helps to express jest. You create a winking smiley face using the keys available on all standard keyboards, and it shows your friend that you're joking. You might also use the symbol to express flirtation.
Instructions
Step 1
Sign in to your Facebook account. Locate the post under which you want to leave a comment.
Step 2
Click the "Comment" link under a post that currently has no comments beneath it, or inside the "Write a comment" field under a post with previous comments.
Step 3
Type a semicolon immediately followed by a closing parenthesis. The resulting symbol, ;), represents a smiley face with a wink. You can enter the symbol by itself or before, after or in between other text.
Step 4
Hit the "Enter" key to post the comment. The original poster will receive a notification about your comment, as will any other user who has previously commented on the post.
