Facebook Wall Etiquettes

A Facebook user's Wall is a public webpage where Facebook friends can post a comment on someone's profile. The Facebook user can also post status updates which appear on her Wall and in the News Feed. Wall posts are public, so users should be aware of what is written in the post to prevent embarrassing someone and exposing too much information.

Personal Information
Do not post something that reveals personal information that the other person would not want anyone to know. Although Facebook is a public forum, there are some things that are better kept private. A private message can be sent on Facebook just as easily as posting on someone's Wall. If you think that a Wall post might reveal too much information, be safe and send it in a private message.

Being Courteous

Facebook may be a forum for people to vent anger, disappointment, or other emotions, but do not post comments that are mean to another person. If other people are involved in a fight or disagreement, they could read your post and comment on it. A Facebook post is not worth hurting someone's feelings or making another person mad at you. Facebook can be a positive place, so it is best to keep the negative comments to yourself.

Short Conversations
Write long conversations in a private message or on Facebook chat, rather than having a long conversation on someone's Facebook Wall. Conversations reveal personal information and take up space on a Wall. Wall posts should have minimal information and should rarely be more than a couple of sentences long.

Language and Grammar

Hundreds of people may read your Wall post and what you post may be a reflection of who you are as a person. Don't use harsh language, curse words or make blatant grammar and spelling mistakes, especially if someone who knows you in a professional context is friends with you on Facebook.
