Ideas to Sell on Facebook

The popularity of Facebook has inspired many users to figure out ways to utilize this valuable resource for profit. Whether you only want to get rid of the odds and ends cluttering up your closet or you're hoping to break into large commercial operations, Facebook offers a variety of ways for you to find the buyers who want what you have to sell.

Status Messages
Facebook allows you to post a status for all of your friends to see. While most people spread news about how they are feeling or activities in which they are participating, this is also an optimal way to sell various items that you want to get rid of. While this sales method is not optimal for a high volume of transactions, you can think of it like a virtual yard sale. The best part is that it will be your trustworthy friends purchasing the items, not random strangers. If you are not particular about who buys what you have to sell, there are Facebook pages that allow buyers and sellers to connect.

Facebook Marketplace

Facebook hosts Marketplace, an area where users can post items they have for sale or search for items they want to buy that are for sale near where they live. This page is similar to other virtual tag sale-style websites in that the two users, buyer and seller, arrange a private agreement between themselves. This means that there is no innate protection for either party should something go wrong. It is advisable that you use a payment service with available fraud protection, such as PayPal, and record all the details of the transaction in writing.

Facebook Storefront Pages

Many of your favorite stores have their own pages in Facebook. Often, they will post items for sale or special limited-time offers on their Facebook wall. If you have your own store, whether tangible or online, you can start a Facebook page for it. Use your store's Facebook page wall to post items for sale, special limited-time deals, offers for fans of your store (users who "like" you on Facebook) or links to the main store website so that visitors can make purchases. You may be able to reach many more customers using Facebook than hoping someone will randomly stumble upon your website.

Facebook Alvenda Page

If you do not have a website to direct Facebook users to, a storefront may not be ideal for you. It can be confusing to field multiple messages from people asking questions and making purchase offers. In the past, however, Facebook users had no choice but to use a storefront and throw together a website, or tolerate the message mayhem. Recently, a company called Alvenda developed a way to create Facebook pages with internal purchase capabilities. This means that your Facebook store page and your store website can be one and the same, with visitors purchasing items directly off of the Facebook page without redirection.
