Departments in Advertising Agency

Advertising agencies conceptualize, create and initiate various forms of promotion for a variety of clients. Like most companies, ad agencies consist of several different departments, each geared toward the handling of a particular facet of a promotional campaign to ensure its success. Advertising companies conduct operations in a range of organizational forms across three major areas of focus.

Research
The research arm of an advertising company is geared toward analyzing survey data, polls and other market research to gauge the target market of clients. Research professionals are often well versed in mathematical modeling, project design and communications methodology. A main goal of advertising research departments is to detect patterns in previous research to predict the mood of current markets. This not only helps clients gain new customers, but also works to foster long-term brand loyalty.

Creative
The creative branch of an advertising company is charged with conceptualizing client messages in an artistic form. This conceptualization can span all kinds of media, ranging from print to audio and television. Creative departments take expert steps to tailor client messages to the particular audience they are trying to influence or persuade. Creative professionals within advertising are often well versed in various art disciplines ranging from traditional artistic disciplines like creative writing, screenwriting and drawing to more advanced desktop publishing techniques.

Account Services
Professionals in the account service realm of advertising are responsible for maintaining open lines of communication between the client and the agency. Account service employees stay abreast of current campaigns to make sure they are running smoothly, on budget and within deadline. Account managers must always be open to the desires of current clients, while simultaneously tracking potential new business leads. Advertising account professionals are often well versed in business communication, sales, project management and networking.
