How to Intern at Advertising Agency

A good way to get working experience is to intern at an advertising agency. This comes in handy especially if you're a marketing, communications or public relations student. Future employers want to see what kind of professional work you've done in addition to formal schooling. Internships give you work experience to place on your resume.

Do well in your marketing, public relations or communications course if you want to intern at an advertising
agency. Even the intern position is competitive. Though you've yet to get working experience, the advertising agency's leadership wants to see proof that you have some knowledge of what an intern position does.

Search the Internet for advertising agency internship opportunities in your area and study each company's way of doing things and their list of job openings. View potential employer web pages and take note of the way they are written. Take advantage of job boards like Monster and Careerbuilder to consolidate search efforts as well.

Fill out the company's online form if they're looking for someone to be their intern. Or call the advertising agency phone number to get more details about the job. Ask them about the position and get more details on what the intern does. Talk to the person that supervises the intern.

Submit a resume, cover letter and a recommendation from one of your professors or a previous employer. Contact the intern point of contact to see if they received your package and arrange for the interview.

Show up at the advertising agency interview dressed professionally. Be prepared to expand on what you said in your resume. Also provide them with reasons on why you would be their best choice for this internship position and how they can benefit from choosing you over other candidates.
