Tow 1999 Jeep Wrangler

A cross-country move, a fun day of off-roading or just a flat tire are all reasons it's a good idea to know how to tow a 1999 Jeep Wrangler. Of the two towing methods -- flatbed towing and wheel-lift towing -- flatbed towing is considered the gentlest on your vehicle. If you are not stranded by the side of a road and have time to prepare for a tow, some tricks like tightening the lug nuts can prevent mishaps while the vehicle is in transit.

Disconnect the rear drive shaft before towing because the drive shaft on a 1999 Jeep Wrangler can malfunction if connected during towing.

Tighten the lug nuts to avoid losing wheels while being towed.

Remove the front hubs or protect them from the elements. You can fashion your own hub covers using duct tape or even a soup can.

Wrap duct tape around the U-joint of the drive shaft.

Use a trailer to tow your Jeep when the option exists. Wheel-lift tow trucks can damage the steering.
