Make Value Proposition Diagrams

Create your own value proposition diagram for your business. A value proposition, or unique selling proposition (USP), is a short statement that gives your customers the biggest promise that you can make. It is a statement that solves their problem and explains to them why they should do business with you, versus any other available option.

Make a list of all the individual benefits that your company offers, such as superior service, on-time delivery and excellent quality. List each of these items in benefit format so that they provide a solution for the customer.

For example, write "products delivered on time to save you money" not "we deliver within 24 hours of your order."

Make a list of benefits that your competition offers to their customers. List each item in benefit format on your paper.

Eliminate all benefit statements where your competitor offers the same benefit as your company.

Pick the top two benefits that offer the largest incentive for the customer and that are specifically aligned to your business.

For example, do not pick "great service" if you have a stronger benefit, such as "double your money back guarantee."

Write your value proposition diagram. Craft a sentence or two that explains exactly how your business uses the two benefits to solve the customer's problem. Every word in this statement must count toward persuading the customer to do business with you. Write your value proposition in such a way that you answer the customer's problem directly in the statement.

One way to create your statement is to use templates, such as, "You know how (insert the customer's problem here), well what we do is (insert your one or two benefits here)."
