Facebook's "People You May Know" feature is automatic, so there is a chance that people you do not know are included and suggested to you. Facebook looks at various factors when suggesting people you may know, but they are not guaranteed to be people you do know.
Remove People You Do Not Know
Click the "x" next to the name of someone you do not know to remove that person from your screen.
Prevent Your Profile From Appearing in "People You May Know"
If you do not want to be suggested as a friend that someone else may know, you can heighten your privacy settings so your name will only be suggested to friends of your current friends. Sign in to Facebook. Click on "Account" in the right corner and then select "Privacy Settings." Click "View Settings" under the top heading "Connecting on Facebook." Change the setting to "Friends of Friends" on the drop-down menu next to "Search for you on Facebook" and "Send you friend requests."
