Decorating for Halloween is always entertaining especially when making unique decorations. One very fun way to decorate the outside of your home is by creating your very own graveyard. This activity will give you the opportunity to create original accents that won’t take much time and will leave you with a truly spooky holiday scene. Follow these steps to make your own Halloween graveyard.

Paint your graves. Take several pieces of styrofoam or several thick pieces of cardboard and spray paint them grey (or silver). These are going to be your tombstones. Styrofoam is more weather resistant but cardboard will also do the trick.
Add inscriptions. One of the most creative aspects of making your own Halloween graveyard is creating the epitaphs or inscriptions that will be on your stones. You can search online for clever messages, but part of the fun of making your graveyard is coming up with your own. Examples of a few fun epitaphs are: “Here lies a fella named Zeke, second fastest draw in Mason Creek” or “Here lies the body of Madison Blake, stepped on the gas instead of the brake.” Use your black paint or black magic markers to create your one-of-a-kind epitaphs.
Secure graves in the ground. Choose the spot in your yard where you want to create your spooky scene. Take your wooden sticks or plastic stakes and attach them to the back of your grave stones with the duct tape. Leave enough of the stick or stake hanging at the bottom of the grave stone so that you can push it securely into the ground.
Build a fence. A clever and easy way to contain your graveyard (and to keep wanderers from walking through) is to build a makeshift, rundown looking fence. Take excess pieces of wood and simply hammer them together to create a small fenced in area.
Accessorize your graveyard. Once you have your stones in place, the last step is to accessorize your grave yard. Use your props such as your excess dirt, shovel, skeletons, spider webs and clothing accessories and decorate the grave yard. You can use the excess dirt with your skeleton and clothing accessories to make it look as if one of the deceased are trying to get out. Use your spider webs to lay between the graves or on your fence for a more eerie look. Be creative and create a completely original look for your yard this Halloween.
