Facebook's social-networking website allows people to connect and share daily details. When signing up for an account, each user sets a profile and status and gears it to personal use. Font symbols, such as a peace sign or snowflake, have gained popularity for their playful and expressive nature. Because most symbols are made with fonts not included on Facebook, users must locate theirs through a character map to add to their Facebook accounts.
Click the "Start" button located on the end of the tool bar. This button is usually located in the lower left corner of your computer screen and will either display the "Windows" logo, or say "Start." Select "Programs" from that menu, followed by "Accessories," then "System Tools," and finally, "Character Map."
Change the font to "Wingdings." The "Character Map" program will display a pop-up menu of every letter of the "Wingdings" font. Type "T" into the "Character to Copy" box. The "T" will automatically be transformed into a snowflake.
Highlight the snowflake, then press "Ctrl" and "C" simultaneously to copy the image. This will save the snowflake to the computer clipboard.
Close the "Wingdings Character Map" by clicking the red "X" in the upper corner of the screen. Navigate to the area of Facebook to place the snowflakes. For example, to add snowflakes to your status, click the "New Status" button.
Press "Ctrl" and "V" simultaneously to paste the snowflake image in the text box. This step can be repeated to add additional snowflakes.
Add any additional text if needed. For example, if you were going to type "It's snowing!" with two snowflakes in front of the words, you would press "Ctrl" and "V" twice, followed by the text "It's snowing!" Press "Update" when you're finished. The snowflakes will now appear on your Facebook page.
Tips & Warnings
The snowflake symbol can be copied and pasted directly from font symbol websites, such as Text-Symbols.com, Alt-Codes.net or Fsymbols.com. This eliminates the need to open the "Character Map" program on your computer.
Wingdings font can be downloaded from websites such as DaFont.com, 1001FreeFonts.com or UrbanFonts.com.
Be sure to use the font "Wingdings," not "Webdings." Both fonts appear similar, but the "Webdings" font does not have the snowflake image included with it.
