Make Tears in Facebook Status

To show that you're crying in your Facebook status, use an emoticon, a series of text characters that symbolize an emotion. Tears are usually represented in an emoticon with an apostrophe that is located below the "eyes," which are often made with a colon on facebook. You can simply post an emoticon for your Facebook status to express your feelings, but to make it clear why you're using it, post a message explaining what is making you feel sad.

Log in to your Facebook account.

Click the text field below the "Status" link.

Type a brief message explaining why you feel upset. For example, if your best friend moved away, you could write, "My BFF moved across the country today. I miss her already."

Create a sad emoticon with tears at the end of the message by typing (in exact order) a colon, a space, an apostrophe, a space, a hyphen, a space and an open parenthesis. The emoticon should look like this:

: ' - (

Click the blue "Share" button located beneath the text field and to the right.

Tips & Warnings

To indicate that you're extremely upset and sobbing, type the following characters in this order: a colon, a tilde for the tears falling, a hyphen and an open parenthesis. The emoticon will look like this: :~-(
