How to Tag in Facebook Status Without Name

By using a special syntax you can tag your friends in Facebook status updates. Tagging places a link in your status update that allows anyone who views it to click on the friend's name to visit his profile page. Tagging also sends out a notification to any friends tagged, letting them know that you've tagged them. If you don't want to use your friend's official Facebook name, you can tag friends using a shortened version of the name.

Launch your browser and visit Facebook.com. Sign into your account.

Click on the "Status" button at the top of the "News Feed" window.

Click within the box that reads "What's on your mind?" Type out the status that you want to add to Facebook and insert the "@" symbol wherever you wish to tag someone.

Type the first letter of the first or last name of the person you wish to tag in your Facebook status. A menu will appear, with a list of your friends.

Scroll through the list of friends and click on the friend that you wish to tag. Facebook will automatically insert the name of your friend into your status and highlight it in blue. This represents the tagged name.

Double-click on the friend's first or last name and press the "Backspace" button to delete it. The remaining portion of the friend's name remains tagged, as long as these parts of the name were originally adjacent to each other.
