Do Hard Return in Facebook

Facebook lets you type status updates, short introductions above links that you share, extended updates called "Notes" and other content. In all of these cases, pressing "Enter" on your keyboard creates a hard return, just as in any word processing program. When entering a comment on a posted item, however, pressing "Enter" only posts the update. This can be frustrating to those who wish to type longer, more nuanced comments which inevitably call for paragraph breaks. The trick to creating a hard return in a Facebook comment is a simple keyboard combination.

Log in to Facebook and navigate to any Facebook post that allows you to drop comments.

Click inside the comment box. Type your first line.

Hold down the "Shift" key and press "Enter." This produces a hard return.

Type the second line of your comment and repeat these steps as desired.
