Facebook allows members to post status updates and comments and send messages from the online dashboard. The website supports special characters including the black heart symbol, which Facebook members can create by inserting the appropriate letters and numbers within the text of a comment, status update or other message. The heart symbol allows members to showcase and depict their love and admiration for someone or something through an icon rather than plain text. Facebook automatically renders all heart symbols to a solid, black heart.
Log in to your account at Facebook.com.
Click inside the message, comment, caption or status update to which you wish to add a black heart.
Type the "<" and "3" keys on the keyboard without a space. The entry should look like this: "<3" (without the quotes).
Press "Enter" or "Send" to post the text. The "<3" text is converted to a black, solid heart symbol.
