Facebook friends share reading access to each others' wall posts and notes. However, if a friend does not log in to Facebook frequently, only the latest news appears on the top of their friend feed. Facebook introduced "mentioning" or status tagging in 2009. Mentioning friends in status updates increases the likelihood that a targeted friend reads it. When you enable the mention feature with keystrokes rather than merely type the friend's name in, a highlighted hot link connects to the friend's page. A status update mentioning another user appears on their wall as well as the author's.
Compose a status update. Type your message in the box at the top of your profile page.
Insert the @ symbol where you would like the friend's name to appear by clicking on Shift and the number 2 key.

Click on the desired name. The name appears in the status update. Continue typing the rest of the status message.
Mouse-over and right click on the "Share" button. The status update publishes to your wall and posts to the mentioned friend's wall.
