Your Facebook messages are searchable, helping you locate any message you haven't deleted. As long as you know who sent the message, who else received it or any of the words included in the message, you can find it using the message search feature. Facebook keeps private messages and instant messages in the same section, so you can search both types of messages at once, in case you aren't sure which type you are looking for.
Log into your Facebook account by entering your email address and password on Facebook.com. Once you have entered the correct information, you'll be directed to your homepage.
Click "Messages" in the left column of your Facebook screen. It is located in the top section, just under your profile picture.
Type your query in the "Search Messages" bar, located at the top-right of the messages screen, and hit "Enter." Enter whatever information you wish to use for your search, including the sender or receivers of the message. You can also enter keywords from the message. The more detailed your search, the more quickly you'll narrow down your choices.
Click the magnifying glass next to the "Search Messages" bar to narrow your search farther using the type of message. Your choices include "Unread Messages," "Archived Messages," "Sent Messages" or "Email Only."
