Best Shoes for Boxing

Boxing shoes are specifically designed to enhance the performance of---and protect---boxers. The soft shoes are often equipped with ankle supports, padding to cushion the feet and grooved or textured bottoms to increase traction (although some feature smooth bottoms to allow for maximum mobility / speed). Nike, Everlast, Main Event and Adidas make some of the best boxing shoes on the market.

Nike
Nike manufactures a variety of boxing shoes; its most renowned models are Speed Spyder, Lo-Pro and Machomai.

According to bestcovery.com, the incredibly durable Speed Spyder boxing shoes are made from nylon mesh and synthetic split leather (a suede-like material). The shoes also feature adjustable ankle supports, a fully cushioned tongue and grooved bottoms made from two types of rubber.

A less expensive (but very similar) boxing shoe is the Lo-Pro, which is made from nylon mesh and a combination of synthetic and authentic suede leather. According to bestcovery.com, the Lo-Pros, which also have dual-rubber bottoms, are very lightweight.

Another Nike option is the Machomai, which features inset nylon mesh and a phylon (responsive, lightweight material made from compressed foam) mid-sole for added comfort. According to okityes.com, professional boxers Julio Caesar Chavez Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya have worn Machomai shoes in title matches.

Everlast
According to bestcovery.com, Everlast---best known for its boxing gloves---makes two top-rated boxing shoes: Lo-Top and HydroLast.

The affordable, suede Lo-Tops feature vents for increased air circulation, straps for arch-support and patterned rubber bottoms for traction. They are best suited for amateur boxers or practice sessions, as they do not last as long as some of the more expensive models.

HydroLasts are one of these more expensive and durable models. The bottoms of the shoes utilize Michelin's patented "HydroLast" tire tread technology, which provides optimal traction even when the ring's canvas floor is wet.

Main Event
Main Event boxing shoes are well known for their authentic style. According to okityes.com, two of their most popular models include the flashy, patriotic-looking Red/White/Blue shoes made from breathable mesh with leather trimmings, and the all-leather Classic Leather boxing shoes, which are rugged (both in appearance and durability).

Adidas
According to bestcovery.com, Adidas boxing shoes are among the most comfortable and most expensive boxing shoes on the market. Their premier Pro Bout model features patented TORSION flexibility technology, an adjustable mid-foot support system and compressible, molded mid-soles.

A more affordable model is the Adidas Adistar boxing shoe, which---according to okityes.com---features a high cut for added support, a cushioned mid-sole and a slip-resistant bottom.
