Boxing Gym Equipments Ideas

Boxing is one of the most difficult sports to master given its blend of skill, coordination and physical conditioning. To prepare for the rigors of combat, boxers work out on equipment specific to their craft, honing their power, speed and reflexes in the gym before they step into the ring.

Speed Bag
The teardrop-shaped speed bag can be adjusted to hangs at nose level from a board or drum, typically attached to a wall unit or a freestanding frame. The bag rotates on a short swivel. Boxers practice punching speed and hand-eye coordination as they rattle off combinations on the speed bag. The bag is designed to ricochet off the drum and bounce back to hit the other side, gaining speed and making it more difficult to strike.

Heavy Bag
Packed with sand or rice, this large cylindrical bag hangs by a chain from the ceiling or a stand to a foot or two off the floor. You can simulate punching combinations to an opponent's upper and lower body on the large heavy bag and you can put some real power into your strikes, since the bag doesn't give as easily as smaller speed bags. Burnout drills on the heavy bag improve your anaerobic conditioning, essential in boxing matches.

Boxing Gloves
If you're going to step into a boxing gym to train, you're going to strap on a pair of leather gloves. Boxing gloves are designed to protect your hands from acute injuries that come about from repeated impacts, but they're also designed to reduce the chances of dishing out a fight-ending laceration in the ring. Training gloves such as sparring and bag gloves tend to be larger and heavier, affording more protection and less power. Conversely, competition gloves tend to be lighter and more densely packed, dishing out more damage.

Additional Equipment
Protective equipment includes headgear, mouth guards, hand wraps and chest protectors. Headgear and chest protectors cushion you from impact forces during sparring, while hand wraps take some of the impact out of your wrists and knuckles when you punch. Padded mitts are used for focus punching, and jump ropes can be found at most gyms for fast-paced warm-up drills.
