When compiling a list of online resources for a topic you may want to grab all of the websites that Google returns for a specific search, but you don't want to spend the time clicking on every link and copying the URL manually to your list. Extracting URLs allows you to pull up to 1000 Web addresses from a Google search automatically so that you won't get carpal tunnel from all that redundant clicking.
Visit the Google URL Harvester page (see Resources) and click the "Install" link. Accept the installation in the bar that pops up at the bottom of your browser window by clicking "Continue" then click "Install."
Disable Google instant search by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the Google page then clicking "Search Settings." Scroll down to "Instant Search" and check "Disabled," then click "Save Preferences."
Browse to a Google search page and type in your search query. Instead of pressing "Enter" click the shiny, new "Harvest URLs" button to generate a list of the URLs from that search. Press "Ctrl-A" to select all the URLs then copy them by pressing "Ctrl-C" paste them into a document by pressing "Ctrl-V."
Firefox
Install the Greasemonkey add-on to Firefox (see Resources) so that you can install the script. Click the "Install" link on the Greasemonkey page and accept the installation.
Browse to the Google URL Harvester page (see Resources) and click on the "Install" link. Click "Accept" and then "Install" to finish installing the script.
Browse to a Google search page then click on the gear in the upper right-hand corner. Click "Search Settings" then put a check in the box to "Disable" the instant search feature. Click "Save Preferences."
Type in your search then click the "Harvest URLs" button. Press "Ctrl-A" to select all the text then press "Ctrl-C" to copy it and finally "Ctrl-V" will paste the extracted URLs into your list document.
