Google alerts are an easy way to stay up-to-date on the news and subjects that interest you. You can create a Google alert that is emailed directly to your inbox as breaking news occurs or as new blogs and other items of interest appear on the Web. With Google alerts, you save time by not having to repeatedly search the Internet for a topic. You can monitor a developing news story or keep an eye on the activities of a business competitor using Google alerts. Set up a Google alert with just a few clicks.
Open a browser and navigate to Google.com. The Google homepage opens.
Click "More" on the top toolbar of the Google homepage.
Click "Even More" from the drop-down menu.
Click "Alerts" on the "More Google Products" page.
Type one or more search terms or keywords in the text box. Whenever any of these keywords appear in new Web content, Google will send you an email notification.
Choose the type of Google alert you want to receive. Select "News" to receive alerts picked up from a wide variety of news websites and other media sources. Other options are "Blogs," "Videos" and "Discussions." Select "Everything" to receive alerts from all sources.
Click the "How Often" drop-down menu and choose from "As It Happens," "Once a Day" or "Once a Week." Choose the first option to receive alerts as soon as Google detects an event that matches one of your keywords.
Click the "Volume" drop-down menu and choose "Only the Best Results" or "All Results," depending on your preference.
Click the "Deliver to" drop-down menu and select the email address to which Google alerts should be sent, if more than one email address is displayed.
Click the red "Create Alert" button.
Log in to the email account that you selected in Step 9 as your "Deliver to" address.
Wait for an email from Google and open the message when it arrives. Click the Web link to confirm your request to receive Google alerts at this email address.
