Install Google SketchUp Guide

Google SketchUp is software that allows you to create and present 3D models. It can be used by users of all different skill levels, from the dabbler to the professional. Google SketchUp is free to download and use, though if you will be using the program for professional purposes, you may end up purchasing the more featureful Pro version. There's also a version for educators to use in the classroom. Whichever version you chose, the first step is to install it.

Make sure your operating system is supported by Google SketchUp. The program is supported on Windows 2000, XP and Vista and Mac OS X 10.4.1+ and 10.5+. You'll also need to have the latest version of QuickTime or MediaPlayer .

Confirm that you have met all the hardware requirements. Of most importance is having a video card that is 100% OpenGL compliant with the latest driver installed. Additionally it's recommended that your system have 2GB of RAM and 400 to 500MB available disk space and a 3-button scroll mouse.

Download Google SketchUp or Google SketchUp from the website. The file is large and takes a while to download, so you'll need to be patient.

Locate and double-click on the installation file. When the installation Wizard window appears, click "Next" and read the license agreement carefully before accepting the conditions. If you don't accept them you won't be able to install Google SketchUp, but it's a good idea to know Terms and Conditions before you agree to them.

Accept the Terms and Conditions, click "Accept" and, in the ensuing window, choose a destination folder by choosing "Change" or keep the default location. Hit "Next" when you're finished.

Click "Install" and wait for the Wizard to install Google SketchUp. As it is being installed, you will also see a pop-up window informing you that the program's features are being set up.

Decide whether you want Google to be your default browser and whether you want the toolbar to be installed on your browser and check the correct boxes when the box pops up. Click "Finish" to complete installation.

Double-click on the desktop shortcut to launch Google SketchUp.
