Have you ever wondered if Google even knows whether your website exists? Google keeps an index of websites to use when someone searches for a particular term or phrase. Google indexes websites automatically using a program called the Google Bot. Although Google will eventually index your site, it is possible to see how much is indexed using Google Webmaster Tools. This free online service includes tools to submit your sitemap, see any errors Google encountered on your site and see how much of your site is indexed.
Open your preferred Web browser and go to the google.com/webmasters/tools website. Sign in with your Google ID or click "Register" to create one.
Click the "Add a site" button. Enter the URL of the site in the field provided and click "Continue." Type a name for your site in the field provided.
Select to verify using your Google Analytics account, by uploading a file or by copying and pasting the provided code on your website's homepage. Click "Verify" after selecting a method.
Click on your site in the Google Webmasters Tools home page. Click the "Site Configuration" link on the left side of the page. Click the "Sitemaps" option.
Click "Submit a Sitemap" to enter the address of your sitemap. Google will upload it and present a status of how many pages have been indexed. Click the "Diagnostics" link on the left side of the page.
Click the "Crawl stats" option. This page displays the statistics of the Google Bot visiting your website.
