Ideas for Baseball Photos

Rather than going with the traditional bat-on-the-shoulder individual photo or the conventional collection-of-rows team shot, create more memorable baseball photos by using unique locations, poses and angles. In addition, while baseball photos typically feature cleaned-up players with washed uniforms, you can achieve a more realistic feel by shooting them in dirty uniforms with their dusty faces and with eye black applied under their eyes.

Capture the players in locations atypical for most baseball photos. For example, you could shoot players individually in an empty dugout or leaning against the backstop fencing, or have cheering fans pose behind a player standing in the on-deck circle as if taken during a live game.

Incorporate unique poses into individual and team photos. For team photos, consider a shot with the players in various baseball-related poses, such as a glove held under one player’s arm, a bat on another player’s shoulder, a catcher’s mask raised but resting on a player’s head, while another one sits on a ball bucket. You could also incorporate setup action shots, such as having players swing a bat, pitch from the mound or dive for a ground ball.

Instead of shooting a player or team from straight on, shoot from a different angle to tell a different story with your photos. For example, consider lying on the ground with a wide-angle lens and shooting up at the players, or stand atop a ladder and shoot down on the players. You could also shoot players from behind, showcasing their names and numbers on the back of their jerseys.
