Adjust Golf Cart Brakes

Safety is important when operating a golf cart, just like any other type of moving vehicle. A properly functioning brake system is required to avoid injury to the driver as well as others. A brake adjustment is needed if you have noticed the brake pedal almost touching the floor when stopping. If you have a few simple tools, you can adjust the brakes in a short time and save money at the repair shop.

Turn off the golf cart. Do not set the parking brake.

Place blocks or bricks in front of and behind each front wheel to prevent the cart from rolling.

Position the jack to lift the golf cart from the rear. Both rear wheels must be lifted off the ground at the same time.

Adjust Golf Cart Brakes
Remove the lug nuts from each rear wheel using the socket wrench. Remove the rear wheels and set them aside, along with the lug nuts.

Reveal the brake adjustment screw by removing the rubber boots located on the underside of the rear wheels. Pull the rubber boots off by hand, pulling away from the wheel.

Turn the adjustment screw so that its movement is toward the wheel. Turning the screw will move the brake pads closer to the brake drum. The adjustment is correct when you feel no resistance or friction when turning the wheel by hand.

Replace the rubber boots and wheels and tighten the lug nuts securely.

Lower the golf cart and remove the blocks or bricks from the front wheels.
