How to Make Plastic Christmas Ball

Decorate your home inside and out with craft projects made from plastic Christmas balls. Plastic ornament balls are available in a variety of colors and sizes suitable for any type of holiday design. Make monochromatic projects with balls of one color, but vary the sizes to add dimension. Mix the colors to create whimsical projects to suit any holiday décor.

Decorative Ornaments
Decorate plain plastic Christmas balls with acrylic paint, glass chips or seasonal wrapping paper to create festive ornaments for the holiday tree. Create a design outline on the ball with a permanent marker and a stencil or template, and then fill in the design with acrylic paint. Glue small bits of stained glass or sea glass to the outside of the ball with viscous craft glue to make a mosaic ornament. Tear bits of tissue paper or holiday wrapping paper into small sections, and then glue the paper to the plastic ball with decoupage medium. If the plastic balls are clear, fill the inside with colorful jelly beans or thin strands of holiday ribbon.

Wreaths
Glue plastic Christmas balls to the front and rims of a foam wreath frame to create a ball wreath. Viscous craft glue works best to hold the balls in place but you can also use hot glue for a quick project. Place the largest balls onto the face of the wreath first; position the balls against each other to cover the foam frame as much as possible. Fill in spaces between the balls with smaller plastic balls. Place small plastic balls on the inside and outside rim of the wreath. To use fewer plastic balls, cover the foam frame with holiday fabric, and then place the balls sporadically around the frame.

Centerpieces
Plastic Christmas ball centerpieces can enhance any holiday tabletop. Decorate the balls with paint, paper or glass before creating the centerpieces, or do nothing at all. Fill a clear, cylindrical vase with an assortment of plastic balls as the central element of the centerpiece, and then flank it with single taper candles in candlesticks. To craft a holiday tree centerpiece, cover a foam cone with the plastic balls using viscous glue or hot glue. Top the tree with a small star or angel.

Hanging Outdoor Decorations
Plastic balls make sturdy and jovial outdoor decorations. Decorate the balls with acrylics or glass bits and then hang them on an outdoor tree. Turn a bare-branch tree into a festive celebration by hanging strands of plastic balls from the limbs. Before making the strands, glue the hanger tops to the plastic balls with waterproof craft glue; the strands will swing in the wind and the balls could come loose. Tie the balls together in a vertical row using fishing line; add colorful glass beads between the balls for added color. Dangle jingle bells at the base of each strand to add a musical element.
