Install Speed Chip in Golf Cart

With some larger golf courses featuring par-5 holes that stretch over 600 yards, getting to your next shot without a golf cart can become quite challenging and tiring. If you own an electric cart, there is a simple and cost effective way to speed up your round: the installation of a speed chip.

Determine whether you have a compatible system. The freedom chip can only be installed on 2000+ EZGO model golf carts with a Power Drive System (PDS) as of 2010. Your model is compatible if you have both the "Forward/Reverse" switch on your dashboard and the "Controller" box under the passenger seat next to the battery pack.

Locate the controller and flip the "Run/ Tow" switch to tow. This will disconnect the engine and allow you to safely open up the box.

Remove the environmental cover to the controller and examine the top. There are three connections on the front of the controller; search for the one that has five circular openings lined up horizontally.

Plug in the Freedom chip. Insert the chip into the port. Make sure that it is secure by firmly pushing it until the flat end is flush against the top of the control box.

Reinstall the cover and flip the "Run/Tow" switch to run.

Verify the installation. Flip the "Forward/Reverse" switch from neutral to reverse five times to enter diagnostic mode. The system will announce the cart's powertrain mode with a series of beeps. One beep is all-terrain mode, two beeps is steep hill, three beeps is mild hill. If it beeps four times, your installation is successful and the cart is in freedom mode, the fastest setting.

Exit diagnostic mode. Flip the "Run/Tow" switch back to tow and then to run, this will exit the cart back to normal operation.
