Make Bike Basket on Budget

From mittens to favorite stuffed toys arts to collected rocks at the river, a bike basket quickly becomes a kid necessity – and grown-ups too! A bike basket can be affordably and quickly crafted using just a few materials, and with lots of room for unique, creative expression. When purchasing the basket, think about what will be carried – how deep it needs to be – and look for something sturdy. The basket can be metal, wood or wicker.

Step 1
Measure the width of the handle bars and the distance from the handlebars to the front bike tire. Look for a basket to closely fit that measurement.

Step 2
Prepare the basket for painting. Remove the handles with scissors, clean the basket with sandpaper and remove any unwanted embellishments, if desired.

Paint and embellish the basket. In a well-ventilated area, preferably outside, spray paint the basket whatever color you like. Allow it to dry completely. The sky's the limit for your optional basket bling. Consider ribbon, silk flowers, beads and glitter glue.

Step 4
Attach the basket. Position basket on handlebars and secure with two evenly-spaced zip ties.

Step 5
It's that easy to cruise around your neighborhood in style, with the added bonus of costing just a few dollars.
