Make Rain Day Craft Box for Kids

When a rainy day keeps you and your kids indoors, boredom does not need to rule the roost. Crafting can provide hours of creative fun to keep a smile on your little ones' faces in spite of being cooped up. If you make a rainy day craft box and fill it with a variety of crafting materials, you will have the makings of entertainment on demand, ready to be called into service at a moment's notice when the weather brings the unexpected drizzle or the wet season makes its yearly round.

Select a plastic tote, shoebox or office storage box with lid, depending on the amount and variety of crafting materials you want to include in your craft box. If you have limited storage space or your child is young, keep it simple and small. For older kids, you can use a larger box to hold a greater variety of materials for more creative options.

Cover the box with a decorative adhesive paper or wrap the box and lid separately with wrapping paper. Alternatively, you can let your child decorate the box with markers, puffy paints, glitter glue, sequins, faux jewels, stickers or foam shapes. Let the glue or paint dry completely before filling the box.

Stock up on supplies such as construction paper, scissors, glue, watercolor paints, paintbrushes, finger paints, puffy paints, crayons, colored markers, colored pencils, pencils, wiggly eyes, yarn, string, glitter or glitter glue, stickers, coloring books, drawing paper, decorative papers, old newspaper, paper bags, cardboard tubes, beads, sequins, faux jewels, elastic cord, craft wire, hole punch, craft templates, felt, fun foam sheets and shapes, magnet strips, fabric scraps and socks, buttons, pipe cleaners, craft dough, cookie cutters, clothes pins, craft sticks, paper plates, pom poms, feathers, masking tape, scotch tape, duct tape in various colors and designs, stapler and staples, paper plates, stencils and clean jars with lids in varying sizes. Pack your craft supplies in your prepared and decorated box. Store the box in a safe but accessible place to await a rainy day that calls for indoor fun.
