Play With 60-Degree Lob Wedge

When it comes to wedges, golfers have four options. The four types, in order of the amount of loft they have, are pitching wedges, gap wedges, sand wedges and lob wedges. Golfers hit a 60-degree lob wedge when they need to hit the ball a short distance, or when they need to hit a shot with a high trajectory.

Use your 60-degree lob wedge when you have a short pitch to the green, when you want the ball to hit the green and stop, or when you need to pop the ball over an obstacle.

Maximize your control over the lob wedge by gripping it five to six inches below the top of it.

Stand so your right shoulder (if you hit left-handed) or your left shoulder (if you hit right-handed) is pointed to the spot where you want to hit the ball. When you're in the proper position to hit a lob wedge, the ball should be right between your right foot and left foot, and 12 to 24 inches away.

Hold the club lightly so the head of it balances naturally on the ground. Bend your knees slightly.

Swing the club behind you. This motion, which should be three-quarters the length of a regular swing, is known as the backswing.

Swing the club forward and aim to strike the spot where the ball meets the ground. Continue your swing, following through. This will propel the golf ball into the air.
