Replace Ez-Go Golf Cart Brakes

Safety is paramount when operating an Ez-Go golf cart. Golf cart brake pads are designed to make a distinct noise when they have worn thin. Ez-Go brake pads need changing when you hear squeaking or grinding while stopping. Golf cart brakes are replaced more easily than brakes on cars or trucks. If you have a few simple tools, you can finish the job in a short amount of time and save money at the repair shop.

Turn the golf cart off. Do not set the parking brake.

Place the blocks or bricks in front of and behind the front wheels of the golf cart. This is an important step to prevent the golf cart from rolling.

Position the 2-ton jack to lift the golf cart from the rear. Both rear wheels need to be lifted off the ground at the same time.

Remove the lug nuts from each wheel using the 3/4-inch socket wrench. Remove the rear wheels and set them aside, along with the lug nuts.

Remove the brake drums, which are located directly on top of the brake pads.

Remove the clips that are holding the pads in place using needle-nose pliers. Do not discard the clips, they will be needed to secure the new pads.

Apply anti-squeal brake grease to the inside of the new brake pads.

Place the new brake pads into position and secure the pads with the clips.

Set both brake drums into position over the brake pads.

Place both wheels back on the golf cart. Secure the lug nuts as tight as possible to prevent the wheels from coming loose.

Lower the golf cart and remove the blocks or bricks from the front wheels.
