FACTS ON THE SHARPULL TERRIER
Appearance
When you mix a Shar Pei with a Pit Bull, you get a dog that is of medium height, weighing in at about 60 pounds. It has a coat of medium length, dark eyes, and a dark snout, much like the Shar Pei, but a strong jawline and sturdy frame like their Pit Bull parent. They have small paws.
Temperament
Sharpulls show personality traits that are a combination of both parents. They are loyal and loving towards their owners, but are not a fan of other dogs, stubborn, intelligent, and aggressive at times. They don't bark much, so you don't have to worry about sleepless nights or tantrum-throwing. They can make wonderful family pets, provided they are trained well from the start in the presence of all family members.
Living Conditions
This unique little thing has a thick coat courtesy its Shar Pei parent, and prefers cooler spaces and open areas. They do make good apartment dogs provided they are well exercised and taken care of, but a larger living space would be preferable.
Diet and Exercise
Like the Shar Pei, this offspring tends to gain weight easily. So make sure you maintain a well-balanced diet and give the dog ample exercise every day. Sharpull Terriers enjoy long walks, rains, and the outdoors; they will give you good company on your strolls and not be a distraction while you are in contemplation. But make sure you give the bundle of joy regular water breaks to avoid overheating of their well-layered body!
Grooming
Sharpulls are easy to take care of as they don't shed much (thankfully!), and require a good brushing only once a week, the exception being during spring time where they need to be brushed every day, as they tend to shed their coat a lot during this season.
Training
Don't get fooled by the adorable faces of this mix breed. Because despite the puppy dog face they give you (pun intended!), these guys are aggressive and stubborn, and their training and socializing must start at a young age to avoid temper issues and disobedience later on in life (much like a human, no?). In some cases, they may require a professional trainer, so keep that in mind if you ever plan to adopt one. They respond well to firm but positive reinforcement, so try to follow that when you discipline them. Don't ever think of getting nasty with these guys, because you don't want to see their mean side! They are also a bit withdrawn when it comes to new faces or smells, so be patient.

As mentioned above, exercise is paramount to maintain the health of these generally fit dogs. A major issue is the skin problems that they are susceptible to due to their thick, folded coats. Bacteria tends to get trapped in the folds, causing infection in the ears, body, and also leads to inverted eyelids. They require regular dental care too―twice or thrice a week to ensure healthy teeth. Overheating of the skin is another issue caused by the folds of skin. So, make sure you give them a lot of water while out on rounds.
