Set Up Gmail as an IMAP in Outlook 2007

Internet Message Access Protocol, also referred to as IMAP, gives email users certain advantages not offered by Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3). One such advantage is the fact that IMAP stores email messages on an email server, irrespective of whether the messages have been read or not. If you are a Gmail user and you use two or more devices, or access your email through several platforms, consider using Gmail's IMAP in Outlook 2007. Using Gmail's IMAP in Outlook 2007 synchronizes your account across several platforms or devices.

Enable IMAP in Gmail
Sign in to your Gmail account and then click on the "Settings" link located at the top right-hand corner of your inbox.

Click on the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab and then select "Enable IMAP" next to the "IMAP Access" section.

Select the "Save Changes" button.
