Having different Gmail accounts is an effective way to separate and manage email messages from your various life roles, such as your business and personal life. You can create a new Gmail account from your current Gmail inbox through the Add Account feature. After you finish creating your new Gmail account, you can use the Multiple Sign-in feature to switch between your old and new accounts without signing in and out of either account. Your two accounts remain connected as long as you are signed in on both -- signing out of either account closes your multiple sign-in session on that particular browser. Further, if you close your browser, you'll need to re-sign in to any secondary accounts to re-launch your multiple session.
To access the feature, click your email address or profile picture featured on every page of your Gmail account.
Step 1
Sign in to your Gmail account and click your profile picture or Gmail address. Click "Add Account" from the pop-up box to open the Sign In To Add Another Account page.
Step 2
Click the "Create an Account" text link to open the Create Your Google Account page. If you already have a second Gmail account, you can instead enter your account's credentials in the Sign In To Add Another Account page's appropriate fields. Click "Sign In" to access the second account’s inbox and automatically connect your two accounts. To switch between accounts, click your profile picture or email address and select the account you want to access.
Step 3
Type your full name, your desired account username and password in the appropriate fields. If the username is taken, try another name or create a variation of the username. In addition, you can also select one of the suggested usernames. Clicking a suggested username adds it to the Username field. Create a strong password to protect your account. For example, an alphanumeric password that has eight or more characters -- such as Gtld8#p6h! -- is more difficult to decipher than a four-character password with all lowercase letters.
Step 4
Enter your birthday, gender and cell phone number in the appropriate fields. Enter a current email address in the Your Current Email Address field. Gmail uses this address to help you regain access to your account if you forget your password.
Step 5
Click the "Default Homepage" check box if you want to set Google as your browser's default home page. Enter the text from the picture in the CAPTCHA box to verify that you are not automated software and then click the "Location" drop-down box to set your location. Agree to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service and then click "Next Step" to open the Create Your Public Google Plus Profile page.
Step 6
Click the "No Thanks" button to open the Welcome page. However, to create your Google Plus Profile, click the "Create Your Profile" button. You can create your Google Plus profile at a later date by going to the Google Plus Profile page. To upload a picture of yourself, click the "Add a Photo" text link.
Step 7
Click the "Continue to Gmail" button to access your new account inbox.
Step 8
Click your Gmail address or profile picture and then select your original account to switch back to that inbox. The word "Default" appears next to your original account.
