How to Export Your Google Contacts

Google's Gmail exploded onto the Web just a few short years ago, and has been on the rise ever since. People from the average email user to businesses are using Google's Gmail as a way to stay in contact with people. But periodically, these people find themselves in need of exporting their contact list for various reasons. Some want to back up their Google contacts so they are not ever lost, others may want to use an email client like Outlook. Whatever the reason you need to export your Google contacts, the actual process is easier than you may think.

Login in to your Gmail account. You will need to know your user name and password.

Click "Contact" in the left hand menu below your mail folders. See the image here for reference (Contact link is circled in red).

Click "Export" near the top on the right side (also circled in red in the above image).

Click the radio button next to "Only" in the export interface and select "My Contacts" from the drop-down menu next to it.

Choose your desired output format in the next section. You can choose from Google CSV, Outlook CSV or vCard, depending on where you will be importing the contacts from. Click "Export" below the format section. See the image here for reference.

Wait a short time for the document to be compiled, and select "Save File" when the save window pops up. Click "OK" at the bottom of the window. Your Google contacts will now be downloaded to your default download location (this will vary depending on operating system and configuration).
