Size Baseball Bats for Kids

For a child, playing baseball with the right equipment will help him not only improve his game, but also develop good habits for the future. He will need a bat that is the right length for his height in order for him to develop a proper swing, not to mention that it is more fun for him if he actually hits the ball. Choose a lightweight bat, and one that will be easy for him to handle given his size.

Choosing a Bat
Weigh your child on a regular bathroom scale. Measure his height with a tape measure.

Choose a category depending on what age and level your child is playing. There are tee-ball bats, little league, senior league, and finally high school and college league bats.

Find a bat sizing chart, either online or in a sporting good store to get the specific length and weight your child will need. Check with his league to see if there are any guidelines. For example, some little leagues will not allow bats longer than 32 inches.

Choose a lightweight bat. You can use a sizing chart for weight as well, but if you are choosing between two bats, go with the lighter one. This will help your child gain control, and he won't develop bad habits by having to use all of his strength to swing the bat.
